Raleigh, NC (AP) _ South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford was in Raleigh yesterday and met with North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue in what officials called an ‘emergency action meeting’ between the two state leaders. An unnamed source from Governor Sanford’s office stated that the two discussed the possibility of combining both state governments in order to better provide services for the citizens of ‘Carolina’. The discussion comes at a time that Governor Sanford has repeatedly rejected stimulus money from the Obama administration, saying the money should be used to pay down state debt instead of funding new projects and education initiatives.

If an agreement is reached, experts say both states would merge and become one state named ‘Carolina’. The capital of the state would be located in Charlotte according to our source.

“What you would essentially have is one ‘Carolina.’” Said Lincoln Anderson, Chief investment officer of LPL, Inc. “Combining revenue of both states into one would solve the shorter term financial problems, but would open a whole other can of worms when it comes to the populations of the two states.”

Indeed, residents would need to abandon the concept of being a North or South Carolinian. Everyone in what is now North and South Carolina would be simply, ‘Carolinians.’

Details are still forthcoming however sources stated that the initial discussion between the two governors went ‘extremely well’.

Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina stated that “he was aware of the discussion and fully supports Governor Sanford’s initiative. He (Sanford) continues to work in the best interest of the citizens of Carolina.”

Lindsey Graham was unavailable for comment.

    Governor Perdue’s office refused comment.
